Today I rode the bus from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, and I tried to capture some of the sites that caught my attention on the ride a few days ago. The bus took a different route, so I didn’t see any houses marked for relocation this time. Instead, I got to experience Cambodia road construction; the project created massive dust storms, and I can’t imagine living along the part of the road that’s being improved.
In addition to the midpoint stop where I took pictures of the women selling fruit, the bus stopped once to loan some tools to another bus, from another bus company, that was disabled on the side of the road. The stop allowed me to take some pictures of two fishing holes that didn’t look big enough to sustain much fish but that clearly were well stocked.
Closer to Phnom Penh, I saw more rice fields. Considering how much water there is in dry season, it’s easier to understand why almost all the houses are on stilts. Wet season must be quite a challenge.
