Glendalough and Powerscourt

After a relaxed morning with a breakfast of French Toast at the Ballyknocken House, we headed to Glendalough, where we took the Green Road Walk around the Lower Lake and the Poulanass Trail up to the Poulanass Waterfall (see “Walking Trails of Glendalough” for a helpful map and details). The combined trails were 4.7 km, with a 150 m climb on the Poulanass Trail.

When we came back down to the area between the Upper Lake and the Lower Lake, a dog was charging into the Upper Lake to chase a duck. The duck seemed unperturbed after the dog’s numerous attempts to reach the duck, but the dog’s owner was getting a bit frustrated. 🙂

From Glendalough, we drove to Powerscourt for lunch at the Terrace Cafe. We dined on quiche and salads before exploring the Powerscourt Gardens.

Finally, we drove back to Dublin, taking some unintended detours, but eventually reaching our hotel (to drop our bags) and then the Hertz location down the road. After walking back to the hotel and resting for a while while we reconnected to the grid (first Internet access all trip!), we walked around St. Stephen’s Green to Grafton Street. For dinner, we shared tiger prawns and cheese boards at Davy Byrnes. Although the pub has James Joyce ties, we selected it for the menu. The cheese boards featured assorted Irish cheeses, including an awesome blue cheese, and they were accompanied by a nice salad.

Then it was back to the hotel to rest up for the next day’s adventures.
